Road Work
Here is an update provided by Gerry Lynch on the road work expected to take place this spring and summer.
Fenel Bridge
COKL has asked the contractor for a schedule to complete the work that was not done last year and expects construction to resume in the spring. Once again, traffic will be restricted to one lane during construction and will be controlled with temporary traffic signals.
Resurfacing of Fish Hawk, Omega and Otter
The resurfacing of these roads is included in the City's 2024 capital works budget that was approved by Council in December. The purchasing department is currently preparing to advertise the tender and hopes to be able to award a contract by the end of March. Construction can't commence until after the spring load restrictions are lifted. The successful contractor will be required to provide a schedule showing all work being completed this year.

Leaf Pit
It's not quite time for spring cleanup yet but we wanted to remind you of some ways to ease the load on our Leaf Pit. Please consider one of the following options to dispose of your leaf waste.
Using the municipal Curbside Leaf and Yard Waste Collection day this spring. The City of Kawartha Lakes picks up curbside on Long Point on Friday, June 7th. All leaf and yard waste must be set out in paper bags or neatly bundled. Plastic bags are not accepted.
Mulching the leaves on your lawn has many advantages. It reduces noise and greenhouse gases used with leaf blowers, enhances the health of your yard and other areas of your garden by creating valuable compost which enriches the soil, and it can also benefit local wildlife. For instance, many species of butterflies overwinter as eggs, pupae, or adults in leaf litter.
Another option would be to take your brush and leaves to one of the local landfills. Please see the City of Kawartha Lakes website for more information at www.kawarthalakes.ca.
