THE BRUSH PIT

…is for BRUSH!

The Brush Pit is a tremendous asset to Long Point residents, allowing us to safely dispose of brush is cleared from our properties.   The contents of the Brush Pit are burned off several times per season, and the burns are carefully monitored to ensure that the fires remain under control.  It is CRITICAL that BRUSH ONLY goes in to the Brush Pit.  Anything other than brush presents serious safety and environmental hazards.

Please deposit brush around the perimeter of the pit and not the centre of the pit.

Prohibited items include but are not limited to:

  • Wooden furniture

  • New or used construction materials

  • Old decks, docks, rafts, playsets, etc.

If you are engaging builders or contractors, it is your responsibility to ensure that they adhere to these requirements.

The combination for the lock can be found in the membership directory.

THE LEAF PIT

is for LEAVES!

The Leaf Pit on Ridge Drive is to be used for leaves only and you will notice a big change to the design. The Board worked with the Imrie Group for the redesign. When depositing leaves, please be sure to follow the signage and place your leaves behind the orange sign.

Gypsy Moth

Gypsy moths remain a concern for our area, as a single gypsy moth caterpillar can eat one square metre of leaves in a season. Repeated defoliation makes trees susceptible to other pests and diseases, and can eventually lead to tree death.

Below is a pictograph of the life cycle of the gypsy moth.

Every Long Point property should have at least one hanging trap equipped with a lure to reduce the gypsy moth population. A limited supply of gypsy moth lures is available from Jeff Taylor (48 Maple Avenue) for $5 each.
