Men’s Hit and Grunt Tennis Tournament Saturday September 5th

The men’s Hit n Grunt tennis tournament was a great success once again! As per previous years, it took place on the Saturday of Labour Day weekend. Despite the challenges brought on by Covid 19, we had 20 competitors and many great spectators. It was great to see 4 Father and Son teams competing this year, I think the most we have had so far. The final match was well attended with the team of Reed Paterson and John Leeder coming out on top.

The Father and Son team of Mark and Andrew Noskiewicz put up a great fight to finish second. The Consolation round was won by Blair Finlayson and Andrew Shaw. Thank you to all of the participators and our great spectators. Thank you also to John Leeder for putting this tournament together. It was a great way to safely complete this most unusual 2020 Long Point season.

Junior Tennis Camp & Tournament
August 3 - August 8th

Anna Shaw has successfully managed another great Junior Camp despite the unique challenges brought on by Covid 19. All of our great instructors wore masks while teaching the little ones and everyone sanitized their hands before and after playing. Waivers were signed by parents for all participants. There were 30 kids that signed up this year. Thank you Anna for so willingly taking this on and keeping this great tradition going.

The following are some friendly reminders:

The lock combination is 2659

Court Reservations:  If you are playing, please ensure that your tag is on the reservation board. That way we can tell whether you are a Long Point resident or not. Please use the new bronze plastic discs that Graham provided everyone last year. If you don’t have one, please notify George Aunger at gcaunger@yahoo.ca.

Locks:  We would like to try this new practice to ensure only authorized Long Point association members are using our courts. Obviously, this will not keep someone from hopping over the fence but at least some of us will question people using a court with a locked gate and no tag on the board.

Shoes: Please use only proper soft soled tennis shoes. This will preserve our tennis court surface. Also, if there are stones, please remove them. There will be nylon brooms available to help with this.

Rollers for wet court:  There is a roller hanging from the fence in each court. If the court is wet, you can use a roller to push the water off the courts surface. The rollers work best when they are saturated. Note that they must always be hanging or they will develop flat spots. The courts should be perfectly dry before playing otherwise injury may occur.

Pickleball:  Court B opened up for Pickleball on July 10 and the new portable nets have received considerable action. Please continue to carry Pickleball nets from either end to protect nets and tennis court surface. Net support legs have now been modified to ensure they remain on while being transported. New hooks have been added on the Reservation board for Pickleball so 2 matches can take place on Court B simultaneously. Enjoy, stretch, follow Covid 19 protocol and stay safe.

Completion of area around courts:  Construction of new stone walkways at Court entrances and Long Point Information board will begin Thursday, Aug 13 and finish sometime the following week. Our Contractor will do his best to work around players but please use caution if he is working while you are at the courts. He will be positioning heavy Armour stone also so please give him lots of clearance.

Please continue to keep our courts and area around the courts, free of debris and garbage. Your help is greatly appreciated!
